The awesome Emily Martin (who you may know as The Black Apple) is quietly becoming the next big thing in the indie art and craft world. A painter, stitcher, and scribbler, Emily’s first book,
The Black Apple’s Paper Doll Primer invites both the young—and the young-at-heart—to journey through her magical landscapes, meet 20 original Black Apple characters, and create our own adventures with customizable paper dolls. “It is for everyone, grown-ups and children, and I think everybody who picks it up to thumb through will find something (a page of tiny clothes, a paper theater, a painted background) to delight them,” says the artist and author. “Paper dolls are unique, alchemical sorts of things…they can come to life in all sorts of ways. There is nothing quite like the act of cutting them out and dressing them up and I dare you not to feel at least a little nostalgic and cozy when you do it.”
