CHA 2013 Recap
Despite Anaheim being surprisingly chilly, the CrafterNews team had a fabulous time at 2013 Craft & Hobby Show. Spending several days soaking up crafty inspiration, making friends, attending workshops, renewing business relationships, and seeing all the hot new products that are about to arrive on store shelves was exhausting, but exhilarating at the same time. Here’s a taste of what it was all about.
One of the highlights was attending the State of the Industry Breakfast where Nora Abousteit of Kollabora moderated a panel on the New Online Consumer with Karen Bartelme of JoAnn, Emily Lawrence of Craftsy, Jaime Bogner of F+W Media, and Jay Bergesen of Etsy. It was interesting to get an insider glimpse into how companies big and small are changing the way they now do business. Our biggest takeaway from the panel was how everyone recognized the importance of collaboration and creating partnerships with other bloggers, brands, and online communities.
Then just as the show floor was about to open, we were treated to a flash mob by Charity Wings to help raise awareness of Breast Cancer and the BeAware Foundation. These ladies showed off some gorgeous handmade wings throughout the four days of the show.
We spent a lot of time in the Plaid booth, partially because they were introducing some fun new products such as a new Martha Stewart glass paint that is super easy to use and dishwasher safe, but also because where else were we going to find a life-size Mod Podge?
Other fun products we got to play with and hear about included a clear chalkboard paint, a new letterpress machine from Fiskars, distress inks from scrapbooking superstar Tim Holz, cool interchangeable clear stamp sets, glitter sprays, and lots of new tie-dye products from Tulip.
And as they do every year, our friends at Lion Brand put on a fabulous fashion show co-hosted by Vanna White.
See you next year, Anaheim!
