New Year, New Craft. Win a Book to Keep Your Crafty Resolution

The beginning of the new year is the perfect time to break out of your comfort zone and try a new craft. We’ve shared some of our authors’ resolutions for 2012. Now CrafterNews wants to know what’s on your list. Maybe you’re a knitter who’s curious about crochet? Or do you want to take that sewing machine out of storage and put it to good use?

Since we all know how hard it is to stick to a resolution, we’re giving away five beginner-friendly books to help you on your crafting adventure! To enter, just leave a comment below telling us what new craft you want to learn this year. We’ll pick one winner for each of these categories:

Photos above are from the prize books: Sweet Stitches from the Heart, The Art of Resin Clay, Sew What You Love, Crochet Adorned, and Jil Eaton’s Knitting School

I kind of crochet but just enough to be able to finish something I knitted. I want to learn to be better at crochet. I have trouble reading crochet patterns. And I also want to improve my embroidery skills. I love it and find it relaxing but my skills are really rusty. I have also set a goal to finish at least 10 of my knitting UFOs this year and 2 sweaters. I can not buy any yarn until I do!

Brooke January 9th, 2012

Definitely sewing!

Susan January 9th, 2012

I’ve wanted to learn to REALLY crochet — not just castons and bind offs — for close to 40 years. My grandmother tried to teach me, but was thrown off by my left-handedness. This may be the year!

Elizabeth January 9th, 2012

This year I want to understand and use crochet patterns. So far my crochet work has been make-some-stiches-and-if-it-looks-okay-repeat-until-something-is-made. This has limited me to pretty much just square or rectangular creations that end up as scarves and arm warmers. Time to branch out and make something more involved from patterns!

I want learn to focus on completing all my projects! It’s so easy to be tempted to start a new project before finishing the one your working on. I also want to strengthen my sewing skills.

Libby January 10th, 2012

2012 is going to be a year to finish projects: the one I’ll need the most help on is a sewing/quilting project–a blanket for my sister. I had a bunch of friends make 9 patch blocks for her when she graduated from college in 2007 (!). Sadly, they’re not all the same size, so I need to add strips to the smaller ones, then piece the whole thing together–then I can pass it off to my mom for the quilting, which she likes to do! I’ve only done hand-piecing before, but I think I’d like to pull out my second-hand sewing machine for this one…we’ll see!
