Look What WE Made: Take Your Mochimochi to Work Day by Caitlin Harpin |
|
I’m a huge fan of Knitting Mochimochi and have rather obsessively pored over the book again and again simply because Anna Hrachovec’s super-cute amigurumi characters never fail to make me smile. I finally got a chance to take needles in hand to recreate one of my favorite designs from the book: TV Guy!
A few months ago, our office hosted a yarn swap—the minute I spotted a skein of dark gray worsted-weight yarn I thought, “That’s exactly what I need to knit the Mochimochi TV Guy!” I grabbed some other leftover bits and pieces from my yarn stash and whipped up this cuddly toy during an especially long wait at the DMV. (Yes, there were a lot of curious onlookers who wanted to know what I was making.)
My new knitted friend came to work with me one day and hasn’t left since. He’s been so helpful and such a good proofreader!
Knitted toys are a quick and easy way to cheer up any workspace, and best of all, there’s no need to check gauge since your finished product doesn’t have to fit. I even picked a few new skills, like how to make a provisional cast on with a crochet hook and create a simple intarsia motif, which were totally manageable on a small-scale project.
