I went away to summer camp one year when I was a kid and was a little sad in the beginning. To cheer me up, my free-spirited mom taped a letter in the bottom of a huge box filled with candy. It was a really “sweet” suprise to get to the bottom and find encouraging words from back home!

Once a friend send me a letter written on Keroppi stationary (paper and envelope). Keroppi(frog) is a Sanrio character one of Hello Kitty’s friends. It had Japanese writing on it. We both were in out 20’s at the time. I loved it but wish I could read the Japanese part.

I think the most creative I ever got was from a friend who dropped off a message in a bottle one day! What a surprise, though terribly hard to get the message out again! haha

These are all such wonderful letters! I would have to say the best letters I received were definitely during college. My mom would send them ALL the time in all kinds of interesting ways.

I don’t know if I’ve ever gotten a creative letter, but I’ve sent some! When my husband was serving overseas, I sent him a letter on adding machine tape. (Slow work day!)

The most creative letter I received is sure to make any girl from here to Transylvania insanely jealous. On Valentine’s Day my boyfriend of seven months left a letter for me next to my bed. He is an exceptional drawer. The letter had a simple yet detailed line drawing of myself on a piece of card stock labeling 1-10 different parts of my body. I loved seeing how his mind pictured me and all the funny details he included. On the inside of the letter he listed each of the numbers with a corresponding description as to why he loved each part.

Here are some examples:

2: eyes – I get lost in your eyes. I get weak and loose all concentration. No matter, I’d like to be lost in your eyes forever.

5: freckles – When you’re sleeping I like to trace my fingers across your freckles, connecting the dots of your glowing skin.

9: dimple – This is what first captivated me about you. Your one dimple. You were helping me find a book when I said something funny that make you laugh. You turned your face slightly away from me, slightly embarrassed, revealing to me the cutest part of your whole body.

Yes, it’s gushy and romantic but I have never had anyone remotely make me something like this! On the back he drew us both: me laying down with him next to me connecting freckles with a pencil spelling out, “I love you”.

And double yes, this is a real letter. I had to pinch myself a few times, run hot water over my hands, and pluck a few hairs to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating.

I don’t know if I’ve ever received a creative letter, but my Grandma made a card with candy bars, etc. on posterboard. The candy is long gone, and my Grandma passed away over 10 years ago, but I kept the card with her writing.

the most creative letter I got was from my 10 yr old. she printed it up on the computer all by herself. she added clip art of a 4 person family (were a family of 6) and wrote our names (mommy, daddy ect) over each person, she also typed out “I love my mommy the longist, and i will never stop loveing her” she mailed it to me while spending the weekend with grandma and grandpa and the front simply said; To: Mommy (and my address) she even cut out a coloring book picture that she had colored and included that too. she called me every day and asked if I got the mail yet :P super sweet!
